ARTICLE ANALYSIS Objective: Student shall prepare a typed response to the following questions measuring the studentâ s ability to identify key methodological components in an assigned research article. The student will also be expected to provide a brief justification for most responses. You may use the following as a template (i.e., can just type responses in). Responses must be in paragraph form. Requirements: Student must prepare a typed paper with a title page and answers to the following questions: o Title Page (centered: Title, Your name, date, course, professor name) o ALL FONT= Times New Roman 12 point font o Stapled, upper lefthand corner o Must be typed, doublespaced, onesided o 1 inch margins o Use running head with page numbers (APA format) ARTICLE ANALYSIS 1. List APA Citation of Article: Note: Do not lose unnecessary points. Cite the article according to APA guidelines. EXAMPLE: Lynch, J.P., & Cantor, D. (1992). Ecological and behavioral influences on property victimizations at homes: Implications for opportunity theory. Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, 29(3), 335362. 2. What is the primary purpose of this research study? Justify. Note: You have the following choices: Exploratory, Descriptive, Explanatory, AppliedEvaluation, AppliedSocial Impact, or AppliedAction (choose one). Justify your choice. Hypothesis 3. The hypothesis you will analyze is: Police officersâ with higher levels of certain personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) are likely to have greater job satisfaction than officers with lower levels of certain personality traits. 4. Identify the Independent, Dependent and Control Variables of this hypothesis. A) Independent Variable: B) Dependent Variable: C) Control Variables (list all): 5. How is EACH variable (IV, DV, CVs) measured (operationalized)? BE SPECIFIC. Note: DO NOT list the level of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio). You will operationalize variables as in the following example: gender (male, female). If it is a composite measure, cite the name of the scale, if applicable, AND describe the measure in detail. A) Independent Variable: B) Dependent Variable: C) Control Variables (list and operationalize all): Research Design 6. What is the time dimension? Be specific. Justify. Notes: You have the following choices Crosssectional, LongitudinalTrend, LongitudinalCohort, or LongitudinalPanel. Choose one. Then justify your choice thoroughly. 7. How many groups are there? (Think: Can you, as the researcher, assign the IV/stimulus?) 8. What type of experiment? Justify. 9. What is the specific name of the research design? Draw the notation of this research design. Sampling 10. Who is the target population in this study? Be specific. 11. Is probability or nonprobability sampling undertaken? Justify. 12. What is the specific sampling technique AND method? Justify. Data Collection 13. What is the general data collection technique and mode utilized in the study. Discuss the procedure/process. Do you believe this was the most appropriate approach? Note: Minimum response of 150 words. Ethics 14. What ethical safeguards and/or principles were taken into consideration in this study? Can you think of any additional ethical concerns that may not have been mentioned or expanded upon? Note: Minimum response of 150 words.
